Used for the determination of the colony count, and for the detection and isolation of Bacillus cereus from foodstuffs.
Bacillus Cereus Agar (Mossel) is used for growing and isolation of Bacillus cereus, which causes food toxinfections. The meat extract supplies vitamins and growth factors to Bacillus cereus. Peptone supplies nitrogen, vitamins and aminoacids. Sodium chloride keeps the medium osmotic balance. D-mannitol is present as fermentable carbohydrate and phenol red as pH indicator.
