Brilliant green bile lactose broth is used for the selective enrichment of Escherichia coli and other coliforms. The bile contained in the nutrient medium and the brilliant green suppress the growth of gram-positive (Flora) completely. The detection of the coliforms takes place via the gas formation as a result of the fermentation of the lactose contained in the nutrient medium.
